The 1000 Green Tara Mala Challenge
We are inviting our community to come together in a shared practice of compassion, courage, and beneficial activity.
Our goal is to collectively recite 1000 malas of Green Tara’s mantra — a total of 108,000 recitations dedicated to the flourishing of the centre and the welfare of all beings.
This is a practice anyone can join, whether you are new to Buddhism or have been reciting mantras for many years. Every mala counts, and every contribution strengthens the intention behind the challenge.
Why Green Tara?
Green Tara is traditionally understood as the embodiment of swift compassionate activity. Her mantra is recited to remove obstacles, steady the mind, and inspire courageous action. Tara’s energy is joyful, protective, and responsive — qualities that support both personal practice and the wellbeing of the wider community.
This challenge brings together three powerful intentions:
Compassion for all beings through the motivation of bodhicitta
Courage in the face of obstacles, both internal and external
Beneficial activity dedicated to the success of Jamyang Leeds and the flourishing of our community
By joining your voice with others, you help create a collective momentum of kindness and positive energy.
Our Motivation:
Over the next few weeks we are going to be moving the Library and Gompa to the ground floor and will be creating a brand new Tara Room on the ground floor too as a new home for our beautiful 21 Tara statues.
The aim of this challenge is simple: To join together as a community to focus on the centre’s compassionate aims, and to dedicate any positivity from this practice towards the success of the centre and the benefit of as many beings as possible.
Reciting Tara’s mantra is a gentle yet powerful way to reconnect with the values that guide our centre — kindness, clarity, courage, and service.
How to Take Part:
Everyone is welcome to join in. You can recite at home, during your daily practice, or at the centre. Each mala is 108 recitations of the Tara mantra. When you complete a mala or each week, simply add it to the Mala counter above.
Whether you offer one mala or many, your contribution is meaningful.
The Mantra:
Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha
This mantra is widely used in Green Tara practice and is known for its ability to calm fear, dissolve obstacles, and awaken compassionate action.
Together we we can reach 108,000 mantras:
With 1000 malas recited, we will generate a wave of positive intention dedicated to the wellbeing of our community, the stability of the centre, and the benefit of all beings.
Thank you for taking part in this collective practice. May it bring courage, clarity, and compassion to everyone involved.
