This year’s JBCL Summer Social Event is a lovely day out at Harewood House to see the beautiful sand mandala created by the Tashi Lhunpo monks who are in residence at Harewood House this summer. We will also visit the stupa in the Himalaya Gardens, followed by a shared picnic in the grounds. We will then watch the monks procession and ritual destruction of the sand mandala before heading back to the Centre. This traditional ritual destruction of a beautiful and painstakingly created work of art symbolises the Buddhist notion of impermanence, the transitory nature of all material things.
The schedule for the JBCL Social is as follows:
11:00 – depart from Jamyang Buddhist Centre Leeds
11.30 – View the sand mandala in the stables courtyard at Harewood House
12.00 – make our way to the stupa for prayers and silent meditation
12:45 – 13.45 – picnic near the stupa
14:00 – return to the stables courtyard to watch the monks procession and ritual destruction of the sand mandala
15:00 return to Jamyang Leeds
If you would like to join us for this year’s summer social event please email your name to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you require a lift, or can offer a lift, or are making your own way there, please let us know so we can coordinate this.
Please note, we have negotiated a special ticket price with Harewood House of £5 per person, which includes entry to the house and garden. This will be collected on the morning to purchase a collective ticket for entry to Harewood House. Please bring vegetarian and vegan food for the shared picnic.
