with Ken Lunn
Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 July, 10:30 to 16:30
Discover mindfulness practice on a non-residential city weekend retreat. Mindfulness has become a contemporary, secular expression of Dharma (Buddhist philosophy, psychology and meditation practices) which compliments more traditional Buddhist teachings at Jamyang Buddhist Centre Leeds. Qualified mindfulness teacher Ken Lunn will lead a two-day exploration of mindfulness, as taught on the well-established Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction programme developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts. There will be opportunities to try mindfulness meditations and practices and learn more about mindfulness, through guided practices, taught sessions and discussions.
Mindfulness: meditation, practice or way of life. This session will introduce some formal and informal mindfulness practices. The group will explore mindfulness experientially, through guidance and discussion. Mindfulness: the body as a foundation. This session will explore various practices that focus on the body and senses. One of the four foundations of mindfulness, the body is used as a focus to increase our awareness and develop a more responsive and less reactive way of engaging with the world.
Mindfulness: foundational attitudes and compassion. This session will look at our ways of relating to the world and explore ways of cultivating attitudes and compassion that help reduce stress and improve equanimity. Mindfulness: developing a personal practice. The greatest challenge for many is weaving a mindfulness or meditation practice into daily life. This session will be an open sharing of ideas for building our personal practices to support us.
The weekend is open to all, either those just starting out or those with mature mindfulness or meditation practice. Suggested donation £25 per day. Email email@example.com to book or use the Book button above. Please note this weekend is not a drop in event and pre-booking is required.
