All kinds of events may lead to happiness for some and unhappiness for others; we are not all influenced in

the same way by our circumstances. This suggests that the inner causes within our own minds have a more dominant role in our distress and well-being than external events. After all, some people experience depression even when living in very fortunate circumstances while others maintain a sense of well-being even in the face of dire adversity.

In this two-day seminar, Alan Wallace will discuss different kinds of happiness and unhappiness—those that arise in response to external events and those that are generated solely from within the mind.

During this weekend we will identify the inner causes of distress and learn to remedy them, and identify the inner causes of genuine well-being and learn to cultivate them, in order to find inner freedom, peace, fulfilment, and meaning in our lives.

The non-residential weekend will consist of talks, guided meditations and Q&A sessions.

Chairs are provided but bring your own meditation cushion if you intend to sit on the floor.

Please also bring your own refreshments. There are many shops nearby.

About Alan Wallace

Alan Wallace is an internationally recognised Buddhist teacher and scholar who has studied and practiced Buddhism for over 45 years. He spent 14 years as a Tibetan Buddhist monk, ordained by H.H. the Dalai Lama and he has studied with many great teachers from the Tibetan and Theravada schools.

Alan is a world-renowned meditation teacher and guide. He also brings deep insight into mindfulness as taught in secular movements and spiritual traditions other than Buddhism. Apart from his training in Buddhism, Dr Alan has a degree in physics and philosophy of science, and a doctorate in religious studies.

Drawing on this multi-faceted background, he brings many years of dedicated and profound practice and the wisdom of authentic experience to the challenge of integrating traditional Buddhist training with the needs of the modern world.
