Buttercross Fundraising Stall Huge Success!

Buttercross Fundraising Stall Huge Success!

After a very unpromising wet start to the morning, we had a terrific day and raised over £230.

Thanks for all your donations, and thanks to Celia, Fiona, Karma, Kerry, Laurel and Tony who helped set up and man (woman!) the stall.

Inspired and encouraged by our success I am booking a stall at Otley Vintage Transport Extravaganza on Sunday 10th September, so once again I am asking for donations. Bric a brac, cds, dvds, computer games, books, quality clothing and rare items of extreme value are welcome!

Here is another opportunity to have a good clear-out. Please bring items into the centre, and I will collect from there.

Love
Jeannie

Jamyang Leeds represented at European Meeting

JBCL Director Kerry Prest recently attended the FPMT European Regional Meeting in Switzerland, hosted by the FPMT group there, Gendun Drupa Centre. The meeting was for 2 days and discussed topics such as ways the different European centre communicate, a new wholesale initiative from the Netherlands, updates from Italian centre’s connections with a local university, as well as lovely mountains and Swiss cheese!

Major Donation for the New Building Campaign!

Some exciting news to share with you all…

  • The centre has been offered a kind and generous donation of up to £50,000 if we can raise that by the end of the calendar year in matched funding.

This means that any donation you make to the new building campaign between today and the end of the year is doubled!

The centre is planning a series of fundraising events this year, but we would welcome other people initiating their own fundraising events or activities.

  • For example: if every active member or friend raises or contributes to the raising of £1,000 each, then we’d make our target of £100,000 by the end of the year

You could organise a sponsored event such as a run or an auction. If you want to use the centre for an event, we’d be happy to help, just contact Kerry.

  • You can also use MyDonate to plan your fundraising event.

All our thanks go to the kind donor, especially for the enthusiasm we’re now using to find our new home.

With love from Kerry and the team at Jamyang Leeds.

Harewood House Prayer Flag Blessings

We were at Harewood House this week, helping to replace the prayer flags. The Earl of Harewood is the patron of Jamyang Leeds and a friend of many years, and each year we perform this blessing ceremony there. In the Himalayan Gardens you’ll find this amazing stupa, built from local stone. Thanks to all who helped with the ceremony.

Ven. Robina Photos Uploaded

Back in March this year we had a weekend of teachings by the incredibly inspiring Ven. Robina Courtin, a nun of over 30 years and a very powerful speaker. We’ve just uploaded the photos from the event to our photo gallery: http://jamyangleeds.co.uk/ven-robina-2017/ Thanks to Craig Skeet for sharing his photos with us.

Library Upgraded

Thanks to a certain Swedish furniture supplier, we now have more shelves in the library! We’ve moved things around a little too with a separate area for magazines. Tim Smith, our Librarian will be reorganising the categories over the coming weeks so do have a look around next time you’re in the centre. All volunteers and subscribed friends are able to borrow from the library.
