Join us for an hour of guided secular meditation, working with the mind and breath to become calmer, more positive, focused and relaxed.
These drop-in sessions, which include mindfulness and analytical meditation, are inspired by the 16 Guidelines for a Happy Life programme.
The idea of the 16 Guidelines for a Happy Life is simple: we can change the way we experience the world by transforming the way we think, act, relate and find meaning. It is our natural instinct to experience the world as something ‘out there’. This focus on external circumstances makes us vulnerable to their ebb and flow, which can never be completely in our favour. However, if you explore more deeply, it becomes clear that your experience of the world is significantly affected by what is going on ‘inside’ – by your state of mind.
Each week the session starts with 30 minutes of guided relaxation meditation to bring focus and calm to the mind. This is then followed by a 30 minute meditation where we explore a different topic from the 16 Guidelines such as patience, contentment, kindness, generosity, gratitude and forgiveness, to help strengthen the states of mind that will bring peace and happiness into our daily lives.
These sessions are drop-in and suitable for all levels of meditation experience, from complete beginners onwards.
The 16 Guidelines for a Happy Life is a programme developed by the Foundation for the Development of Compassion and Wisdom (FDCW). To find out more about the FDCW visit www.compassionandwisdom.org and to read more about the 16 Guidelines for a Happy Life visit www.16guidelines.org
