This text by the Third Dalai Lama is one of eight ‘Lamrim’ treatises that are considered especially precious and excellent. Lamrim, meaning ‘Stages of the Path to Enlightenment’, is an approach to integrating the entire meaning of Buddha’s teachings into one’s personal practice, and is one of the most important aspects of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. The text, which is itself a commentary on the shortest of Lama Tsongkhapa’s three Lamrim treatises, presents the key practices that take one to full enlightenment in a step-by-step sequence, making it easy to grasp the purpose and meaning of each aspect of the Mahayana path.
In addition, a detailed commentary by the present Dalai Lama is included in the expanded edition of the text, beautifully translated by Glenn Mullin, bringing a contemporary perspective to this classic text and making it especially suitable for Western students. Suitable for all, this course will cover the text in detail, with the aim of helping students to integrate the deeper meaning of the teachings into their personal practice.
